Technology Lesson Demonstration Paper
Because it was necessary to find a new technology that I was not familiar with, I began thinking about what type of technology would best meet my need to deliver a presentation that best engages my students. Having found Nearpod and reviewing the lessons available in their library, I was happy to discover that the app would actually benefit me in a great way. The Nearpod online library already contain many slide set presentations about Latin America (in the Target Language: Spanish). I was able to find a presentation that will help me to give a short overview of the Geography of Mexico while using the target language. In addition, students will be able to engage more with the presentation as some slides ask questions that students will be able to type in their answers and results can be viewed live. I give Nearpod a high rating for providing an engaging way for students to interact with the presentation. Some of their presentations include VR, short video clips, etc. It is a great tool for student learning.
Nearpod helps meet the most important differentiation that is most needed for my students and that is that the text be available in English and Spanish. After carefully reviewing the Nearpod online library, many presentations are available in Spanish. Many of my students are Limited English Proficient and so it is crucial that they be able to read content in their native language. To ensure that I present text in Spanish, I also use the Google Chrome extension that translates any web page and/or text to Spanish. This extension is used regularly in class and when I present material to students. Another way that I differentiate is to print out a few copies of the online resource for students who may not have their Chromebook or for those that may need to read and review the presentation.
